Some have derided it for its impracticality, while others see it as just plain cool. But what does George Lucas think? We sat down with him to discuss this very topic:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI had always intended, since the beginning of the series, for lightsabers to have mini-saber hilts, but special effects technology had prevented this. Finally, in 2015, ILM [Industrial Light &amp; Magic] is now able to render lightsabers in this way. After Star Wars VII is complete, I will be having them remaster the original and prequel series for 4K 3D Blu-Ray, adding mini-sabers to every single lightsaber.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He went on to discuss other changes that will be made to Episodes I through VI:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5648\" style=\"border: 4px solid  #000000;\" src=\"http:\/\/smugfilm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/droidland.jpg\" alt=\"droidland\" width=\"692\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/smugfilm.com\/oldsite\/..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/droidland.jpg 692w, https:\/\/smugfilm.com\/oldsite\/..\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/droidland-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cIt was also always my intention for droids to be comprised of a rolling ball with a half circle hovering over it. R2D2, and those other droids that look like R2D2 or whatever, will be re-rendered in this way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;Also was my idea that hover vehicles should be brown, non-aerodynamic, immovable-looking squares. Can&#8217;t wait to finally put those in. Bout time Star Wars vehicles looked cool!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And what of the black, helmet-less stormtrooper? I can\u2019t remember why. It was a very long time ago. Might have been because a girlfriend at the time cheated on me with a black dude. Anyway, not hard to put &#8217;em in, just green screen out the helmets and hire a bunch of black extras and green screen their heads in. And then green screen out the green screen and put the movie in. Or something? Whatever, it\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Surely, the lazy-looking fonts at the end of the trailer couldn\u2019t have been intended. And I also always intended for the font after that, that says when the movie comes out, to just be some weird, fan-made version of the Star Wars font that looks sorta like the Star Wars font, but not enough to infringe on copyright.
